The Historical Metallurgy Society owns two main collections.
The Tylecote Slag Collection was donated to the society by the late Ronnie Tylecote. It is stored at Ironbridge and a catalogue will soon be online and access will be available in the same way as for the National Slag Collection (NSC). The assessment criteria for receiving new acquisitions into the NSC can be found here.
The Tylecote collection of metallographic mounts is now the property of HMS. It is subject to a Memorandum of Agreement between HMS and the Research Laboratory for Archaeology and the History of Art (RLAHA) at Oxford University who are housing and managing it for HMS. Dr Aurelie Cuenod at the RLAHA has compiled an online catalogue of the collection, complete with metallographic mounts and scans of Tylecote's original notebooks (under 'Resources'), which is available for research HERE
