  • HMS Archives and Collections Committee

The Archives and Collections Committee of the Historical Metallurgy Society was set up in 2008 to facilitate the management of various archives and collections. The committee has a special interest in the following:

    The HMS Archive
The archive includes both the records of the HMS itself as well as other historical documents. It is stored in the library of the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust. A catalogue of the papers up to 2005 can be downloaded.

    The HMS Library
The HMS Library consists of books, pamphlets and leaflets that have been donated to the Society. Most of the books are textbooks on metallurgy and the history of metallurgy and include many out of print and rare books titles. A list of the books in the Library is available to download. It is stored in the library of the IGMT.

    The Tylecote Slag Collection
This collection, which is the property of the HMS, was donated to the society by the late Ronnie Tylecote. It is stored at Ironbridge and efforts are being made by both the IGMT and HMS to improve cataloguing and access.

    The National Slag Collection
The National Slag Collection, which is the property of the IGMT, was formed from several collections (including founding members of the HMS). The National Slag Collection is stored at Ironbridge and efforts are being made by both the IGMT and HMS to improve cataloguing and access.

    Members of the Committee
David Dungworth (Chairman), Eddie Birch, Paul Belford, Peter King and Louise Bacon.
